Two towns in NSW celebrate the life of the poet Henry Lawson. Gulgong, near Mudgee, which was his childhood home has a very interesting Henry Lawson Museum.
Grenfell, where he was born in a tent on the goldfields, marks his birthplace with an obelisk and has a bust of the poet in the main street.
Both towns celebrate his birthday with a festival on the second weekend in June. The Henry Lawson Festival at Grenfell includes a street carnival, exhibitions, and bush poetry around a campfire on the Sunday morning, at the obelisk.
